“Come and See” was Jesus’ response to the question from the two disciples, “Where are you staying? “.They followed him and stayed with him all day. Andrew went and got Peter and told him he had found the Messiah (anointed one). Andrew brought Simon Peter to Jesus, who knew him by name.
Andrew’s testimony grabbed Peter attention. It was akin to saying come and see who I have met. Although we don’t read it, we can feel the emotion and excitement between the lines from Andrew to his brother. Peter went with Andrew and we know that his life was forever changed. [John 1:29-42]
These conversations led to life changing experiences for the people involved. The word disciple means one who follows and learns. Andrew spends time in Jesus’ company and is passionate enough to share that with his brother. As Jesus’ invitation moved Andrew, so Andrew’s invitation moved Peter. It is an ongoing process. We are invited to walk with Jesus as disciples and if that experience deeply affects us, it stands to reason that we would invite others to join the trek. Wouldn’t we?
